COVID-19 Apirl 1 Rent Due

Brian Korte • March 30, 2020

What Florida residents should know with rent due during COVID-19 outbreak

About a week ago, President Donald Trump announced the Department of Housing and Urban Development will suspend all evictions and foreclosures for at least a month.

It’s important who falls under this protection.

HUD says this only impacts housing supported by them.

Florida does not have an eviction or foreclosure freeze in place. This can put renters in a tough position.

The stimulus package which could give Americans up to $1,200 depending on income is working to help those financially struggling.

But there are no promises Americans will get this money on time to pay their rent due in April.

If you are unemployed and are unable to pay your rent there are resources available to you.

You can call United Way at 2-1-1 where a representative can point you to resources that can help with rent payment.

You can also call local non-profits like the Salvation Army to check if you qualify for assistance.

It wouldn’t hurt to ask your apartment complex or leasing agency about any leniency or help they may offer.
